Grocerr AI ("we," "our," or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Grocerr AI mobile application and related services.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

• Name and email address (when you create an account)
• Authentication credentials (securely hashed passwords)
• Google account info if you sign in with Google (name, email, profile picture)
• Subscription and billing status (managed via Google Play)

App Data

• Pantry items, quantities, and expiry dates
• Grocery lists and items
• Recipes and cookbooks you create or save
• Meal plans generated through the app
• AI chat conversations
• Consumption patterns and preferences
• Dietary preferences, allergies, and cooking goals

Images & Scans

• Photos captured for dish recognition, recipe scanning, receipt scanning, pantry scanning, and barcode scanning
• Images are processed by the AI service and are not stored permanently on servers after processing

Location Data

• Approximate location (when you use the "Nearby Stores" feature)
• Location data is only collected when you explicitly use store-finding features and is not tracked in the background

Device Information

• Push notification tokens (for sending expiry alerts and updates)
• Device type and operating system (for app compatibility)

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and maintain the Grocerr AI app and its features
• To generate AI-powered recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, and recommendations
• To process scanned images (receipts, dishes, barcodes, recipes)
• To find nearby grocery stores and compare prices
• To send push notifications (expiry alerts, reorder reminders)
• To manage your subscription and account
• To improve the AI models and app experience
• To respond to your support requests and feedback

3. Third-Party Services

Grocerr AI uses the following third-party services to operate:

• AI Processing — advanced AI models power features like recipe generation, chat, and scanning. All AI processing happens on our secure servers.
• Google Maps & Places API — for nearby store finder and mapping features.
• Google Play Billing — for managing subscriptions and in-app purchases.
• Expo Push Notifications — for sending push notifications to your device.
• DigitalOcean — for secure cloud hosting of backend servers.

We do not sell your personal information to any third parties.

4. Data Storage & Security

• All data is stored in encrypted PostgreSQL databases on secure cloud servers
• Passwords are hashed using bcrypt before storage
• API communications are encrypted using HTTPS/TLS
• Authentication uses JWT tokens with short expiry (15 minutes) and secure refresh tokens
• All AI API keys are stored securely on the server and are never exposed to the client app

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed from our servers immediately, except subscription records which are retained for up to 30 days for billing reconciliation.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data stored in the app
• Export your recipes and cookbooks from the app
• Delete your account and all associated data (see Account Deletion)
• Opt out of push notifications via your device settings
• Withdraw consent for location access via your device settings

7. Children's Privacy

Grocerr AI is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, through in-app notifications.
